About

Craft NI is delighted to welcome Cara Murphy, silversmith and Chair of Contemporary British Silversmiths (CBS), for a special artist's talk accompanying A Thirst for Silver, a Contemporary British Silversmiths exhibition showcasing the work of over 50 leading contemporary silversmiths from across the UK.

A Thirst for Silver explores the enduring relationship between silver, ceremony and ritual through the traditional form of the beaker. From shared toasts and moments of celebration to significant occasions and traditions, these vessels reflect the connection between object, maker and user — transforming a precious material into something rich with meaning.

Based in County Down, Cara is a Royal Warrant Holder, a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and an Associate Academician of the Royal Ulster Academy. Her silverware is held in major collections including the Ulster Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and The Silver Trust at Downing Street, reflecting her exceptional craftsmanship and reputation within contemporary silversmithing.

This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from one of Northern Ireland's leading silversmiths. Cara will share insights into her creative process, inspirations and techniques, offering a fascinating glimpse into the skill, artistry and vision behind her own work and that of her fellow contemporary silversmiths.
