The evening begins with Bach's beloved Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, performed by solo cellist David McCann in traditional concert lighting. As the final notes fade, darkness envelops the room and three cellists emerge within a new work inspired by Bach's suite. Drawing on fragments and resonances from the original music, the performers gradually move throughout the space, altering their relationship to one another and to the audience. Without a visual reference, sound becomes fluid and unpredictable. Melodies appear at a distance, echoes emerge from unexpected directions, and familiar material is reshaped through movement and perspective. The work invites listeners to experience music not as a fixed object on a stage, but as a living presence unfolding all around them.
