About
Belfast TradFest presents;
Join acclaimed singer Diane Cannon for the launch concert of her new bilingual book and accompanying album, Mín na Craoibhe.
This special launch concert celebrates a deeply personal collection of songs, stories and musical collaborations rooted in the Donegal sean-nós singing tradition. Through conversation, memory and music, Diane explores the inspiration and cultural background behind the songs featured on the album and in the accompanying publication.
Produced by Dónal O'Connor, the album features musical accompaniment from Steve Cooney, Conor McCreanor, John McSherry, Francis McIlduff and Paul Meehan, alongside string players from the Ulster Orchestra under the direction of distinguished composer Paul Campbell.
The collection, published by Éabhlóid, draws on conversations with singers and tradition bearers who shared these songs with Diane, amongst them Brian Danny Minnie Ó Domhnaill, Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin, Lillis Ó Laoire & Cathal Ó Searcaigh, revealing the stories, memories and living traditions that continue to keep them alive today.
This promises to be one of the highlights of Belfast TradFest. Diane has strong connections with the city, having lived here for ten years, and particularly with Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich, where she worked for a time and developed a close affinity with the people, the city's Irish-language community and the building itself.
