Orla Ní Chorragáin

About

Open to intermediate to advanced players

This workshop offers fiddle players the opportunity to refine technique and deepen musical understanding within the Irish traditional style. Orla will focus on tone, bowing, phrasing, rhythm and tune interpretation, with practical guidance suited to more experienced players.

Participants should be comfortable learning tunes by ear and ready to engage with stylistic detail, developing greater confidence, expression and control in their playing.

Orla Ní Chorragáin is a fiddle player from County Monaghan, known for her vibrant and expressive style rooted in the rich fiddle tradition of her county. Surrounded by traditional music from a young age, she has developed a distinctive voice on the instrument, drawing on regional influences and her own creative flair.

In 2024, Orla won the Senior Fiddle Competition at the All-Ireland Fleadh, a recognition of her dedication, skill and musicality. She is currently in her final year studying for a BA in Irish with Music at Ulster University.

Orla is also the Coordinator of Acadamh Ceoil in Derry, where she plays a key role in supporting and promoting traditional music education. Alongside this work, she remains active on the traditional music scene, performing and teaching at festivals, workshops and sessions across Ireland and beyond.
