About

Suitable for intermediate & advanced musicians with two years instrument experience.

Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh is a highly respected traditional flute player and singer from West Kerry, widely regarded as one of the leading musicians of her generation. Immersed in a rich living tradition from an early age, she grew up surrounded by the music, song and dance of the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht, an environment that has profoundly shaped her distinctive musical voice.

An internationally acclaimed performer, Muireann has toured extensively throughout Europe, North America and beyond, both as a solo artist and through her long association as lead singer and flute player with the renowned group Danú, with whom she spent over thirteen years. She has collaborated with many of the most respected artists in Irish traditional music and across genres, and her work is noted for its musical sensitivity, rhythmic clarity and deep respect for tradition.

Muireann is also a highly sought-after tutor, teaching flute, song and traditional music interpretation at festivals, summer schools and universities throughout Ireland and internationally. Her teaching style is grounded, generous and insightful, focusing on tone, phrasing, rhythm and musical expression, while encouraging players to develop their own voice within the tradition.

This flute workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn from one of Ireland's foremost traditional musicians, with an emphasis on repertoire, ornamentation, breathing, phrasing and the close relationship between song and instrumental style.
