About

The last time Four Men and a Dog played Belfast TradFest in 2023, they nearly blew the roof off Mandela Hall with a blistering set packed with high-powered tunes, outrageous musicianship and the kind of infectious energy that has made them one of the most celebrated bands in Irish traditional music.

Featuring the unmistakable talents of Tyrone brothers Cathal Hayden and Stephen Hayden, accordion maestro Dónal Murphy, songsmith Kevin Doherty and the one and only Gino Lupari, the band remains renowned for its electrifying live performances — full of banging tunes, dazzling dexterity, infectious humour and unstoppable energy.

Formed in 1990, the group became pioneers of a bold new sound, fearlessly blending traditional Irish music with rock, blues, bluegrass and country influences. Their groundbreaking debut album Barking Mad, produced by Arty McGlynn, helped redefine what traditional music could be and inspired a generation of musicians in the process.

From fiery reels and driving rhythms to soulful ballads and thrilling improvisation, Four Men and a Dog continue to set festival stages alight wherever they go. This special Belfast TradFest afternoon performance promises the perfect soundtrack for daytime revellers looking to kick-start the weekend in style.

Expect big tunes, roaring energy and one of the most exhilarating live trad experiences anywhere.
