Local artist and crafter Heather McDermott will guide you through every stage of the process.

First, you will learn how to prepare your natural materials. You will then carve and whittle your own locally foraged birch or rowan shaft using traditional techniques.

Throughout the day, Heather will introduce you to the skills involved in broom making. This includes working with axes, whittling tools and fire techniques. In addition, you will finish your broom using natural materials such as birch brush, copper wire and a special handmade salve inspired by traditional protective customs.

Set within the beautiful surroundings of The Walled Garden, Helen's Bay, this is much more than a craft workshop. Instead, it is a chance to slow down, reconnect with traditional skills and enjoy a memorable autumn experience.
