About

Mary Anning (Family Film Preview) + Intro & Discussion with Dr. Emma Dunne

Before the Screening: Millions of years ago, dinosaurs roamed the land and giant reptiles ruled the seas. But why don't we find many of their fossilised remains in Ireland? Together, we'll uncover the mysteries of Ireland's rocks that provide clues to our ancient past. Along the way, we'll meet many extinct Irish creatures, including armoured fish, horned amphibians, and Ireland's only two dinosaur species.

Mary Anning - In 1811 Dorset, twelve-year-old Mary Anning uncovers ancient fossils on treacherous cliffs. When her father vanishes, leaving behind a cryptic drawing, Mary defies her mother and societal expectations to crack the mystery. Armed with fierce curiosity and sharp wit, this young pioneer risks everything to rewrite scientific history.
