Born into a highly musical family, Mick O'Brien is one of the most respected uilleann pipers of his generation. A highly regarded performer, he has broadcast extensively on television and radio, both as a soloist and in collaboration with a wide range of artists, including Charlotte Church, The Dubliners, The Boys of the Lough, Altan, Charlie Lennon, and more recently the Norwegian group Secret Garden. In recent years Mick has become increasingly sought after as a tutor, travelling throughout Europe,Canada and the United States to deliver workshops and masterclasses. His traditional style is noted for its delicacy and subtlety, underpinned by a strong rhythmic sense and enlivened by distinctive inflections and nuances. Whether in performance or teaching, his playing continually brings fresh insight to even the most familiar tunes, reflecting a deep understanding of the uilleann piping tradition.
