About
Delivered in partnership with The Rainbow Project, The Big Queer Céilí is a joyful celebration of music, dance and community, bringing together LGBTQIA+ people, friends and allies for a vibrant evening of céilí dancing and craic. With music from the Close Brothers Céilí Band and dances called by Belfast-based teacher Alexa Moore, the event combines traditional set dancing with gender-neutral calling and contemporary queer culture, creating a welcoming space for everyone — whether you're a seasoned dancer or stepping onto the floor for the first time.
Since 1994, The Rainbow Project has been working to create a better Northern Ireland for LGBTQIA+ people and their families. Through direct support services, training, campaigning and policy work, the organisation works to challenge discrimination, promote equality and improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ communities across the region.
Today, The Rainbow Project employs a dedicated team of staff and volunteers across offices in Belfast and Foyle, delivering services, programmes and advocacy initiatives throughout Northern Ireland.
The céilí will raise vital funds to support LGBTQIA+ rights and advocacy work across Northern Ireland. No experience required — just comfortable shoes, an open mind, and a willingness to be spun around by strangers.
