A group of camera journalists look on with concern as police officers wearing helmets and firearms vests point baton firearms past them

About

Learn about the issues of policing and reporting the Northern Ireland Troubles from those involved in an intimate lunch experience in Belfast's historic Ulster Reform Club in the heart of the city. In what is a unique offering you will hear first-hand how police officers held the ground in civil strife and in the battle against terrorism in what was the most dangerous policing environment in the world. You will learn about the dangers and challenges facing journalists as they navigated the difficulties of getting the truth and in reflecting the pain of an entire community.
The lunch events are hosted by former police officer and author of a series of books on the Royal Ulster Constabulary, Colin Breen, and former senior BBC Editor Michael Cairns who has written about his experiences both on the ground and behind the editor' desk.
This tourism experience will provide guests with a residual "encounter story" to take away to tell others about. The event includes access to and a tour of the member's only Ulster Reform Club, a high-end two course lunch in a beautiful dining room, a briefing from your hosts and an open Q&A at the table throughout the meal in which you can explore areas you want to know about to broaden your knowledge of two key aspects of the trauma in Northern Ireland known as The Troubles.
This unique experience is approximately 3 hours in duration and will be mostly seated. It includes a signed book from the authors at the end.
Please note that the Ulster Reform Club has a dress policy which excludes sports clothing or trainers.
